The Double Backroll Transition
Step One - Kite Basics
First you need to know how to do a proper air transition. Your kite will be at 12 for the entire trick. Once you complete both bankrolls, you send the kite hard in the opposite direction. You want to come into this one with low to medium speed. If you have too much speed it will be difficult to stop your momentum and go the other way.
Step Two - The Rotations
The first rotation will be a flat 360 similar to your first backerolls. Your feet are underneath you and you’re spinning with the bar. The second rotation is more challenging. Use the momentum from your first roll and huck a backflip. Throw your head back and tuck in your knees hard. A nice indy grab is easy here and forces you to tuck your knees into the flip.
Step Three - The Redirect
As you come out of the roll pull hard in the opposite direction with your back hand. This will whip the kite and pull you into the transition. For any trick, especially a transition, it is important to land riding downwind. This will let you ride out on the board and give you the option to send your kite in either direction.
Step Four - The Landing
You can see Chris is landing downwind slightly favoring his toeside edge. The biggest mistake on landings is edging too hard. So few people try to ride downwind on landings and it is the key to everything. It makes them softer, and allows you to transition easy. Even if you mess up the timing on the redirect, landing downwind allows you to send the kite the other way after landing.
Ryan (Rygo) Goloversic
Many people dream of quitting their job, traveling the world and pursuing their passions. Rygo is one of those people who pulled the trigger. A few years into his career, he decided to change everything and travel as a kiteboarder, freelance videographer & writer. His mission is to share the stoke & help people put the boarding into their kiteboarding. Get outside and kite!
