Slingshot Phantasm PTM 825 and 930 Front Wings

Slingshot Phantasm PTM 825 and 930 Front Wings

I got a big treat for you guys today. I will introduce you to the new PTM sizes in the slingshot Phantasm carbon foil lineup. I've been waiting for these anxiously for quite some time. After riding them for a long time, I can confidently tell you that they are really good, and you should be interested if you're looking for a new foil, especially if you already got the slingshot Phantasm, because these things are the best yet.

The Phantasm 825

These are loosely based on the PTM 1001. They are smaller, faster, and narrower wingspan, so they are more maneuverable, fun, and slashy , and they line up nicely for those looking for a higher aspect foil that just glides and turns amazing. The Phantasm 825 offers the highest levels of performance.

I've been most impressed so far by the 825. It has a seemingly endless top end, 85mm wingspan- a relatively narrow wingspan . It is a relatively small foil at 758 centimeters squared , but it's got a lot of lift for its size. You'd be surprised.

Properly powered, at 200 pounds, you can get up easily, rip around and ride small waves at relatively normal speeds; having not to go Mach 10 is amazing. You get all that glide and speed range out of the high aspect, especially in the small size but having that narrower wingspan smaller size gives you a lot of ability in the turns .

Normally on high aspect foils, given the bigger sizes, even 1001 is pretty spanning, and going into a hard turn, there's a good chance you'll reach a wingtip unless you have a long mast.

The Phantasm 825 is more stable in the roll. You got to do a special setup turn and then Scorpion tail into it. But once you get into these smaller sizes, you can just rip a hard banking turn without thinking much about it. It goes in and out of turns easily without much forethought.

The Phantasm 825, for sure, is what I'm grabbing when it's good conditions, good swell, and I just want to go out there at Mach 10, glide without needing to pump from swell to swell, banking, hard off turns, and we're wrapping cutbacks, all that cool stuff including racing and jumping.

From the indicator, you can see the aspect ratio of 8:9:8. Not a very high aspect but high enough, especially at a smaller size where you get a lot of predictability and glide speed. It is a fun all-around foil as long as you have a decent amount of power to deal with it or if you're a younger rider or a smaller individual/lighter-weight rider, even in relatively light winds.

The Phantasm 930

The Phantasm 930 has a higher aspect, 9:10 , which helps with the speed range on a bigger foil. It is a glider; it would glide for days on almost no swell, float river swell, and gutless lakes, and you don't even need to pump it. You connect the sections and point to where you want to go. Fluid-style riding it's just going to build speed on speed.

If you decide you need to pump it or you're getting near that slow stall speed, they do pump well. You need to keep them a little faster than the huge 1,500-2000-centimeter wings you get when learning. It's pretty impressive how low you can ride the 930 once you get the technique down, so they're really good.

Obviously, you're adding this to a foil system. So, we'll talk a bit about the slingshot Phantasm carbon foil. The slingshot Phantasm foil system is incredibly stiff and durable.

The Slingshot Phantasm front wings are awesome for windsurfing. If you just want crazy speed on your windsurfer, they are great. I believe the Slingshot Phantasm is going to unlock a lot of high-end racing potential or race speeds. Even if you're not racing but like to go fast, these will do that trick for you.

Hang with us at MACkiteboarding if you're a new rider or somebody looking for more on the wave surf performance, not pumping, not high speed, not gliding, down winding. Those are going to be a little bit more medium aspect. There are the E and the G series reviews coming up. Hang with us for some of those reviews as well. Give us a call at the shop, and send us an email on our live chat website. If you have any additional questions, we’ll be happy to help you with those.
