Slingshot Asylum V6 kiteboard
This is Dustin and Pat from MACkiteboarding.com here to talk about the brand new Slingshot Asylum V6. Let's get into it.
Slingshot Asylum v6 Characteristics
Pat: We both rode this board yesterday.
Dustin: It's absolutely stellar. There's nothing crazy new with it, other than some pretty sweet new graphics.
Pat: Yeah, this is the tried-and-true Asylum. If you've ridden any of the previous versions, it's more or less been unchanged. It's got a high rocker line, is more of a freestyle board, and is pretty stiff, but that rocker still helps absorb some of the chop. I wouldn't say it's the best for choppy conditions, but with the rocker line it has, it does the job well enough.
Dustin: Yeah, it was super choppy yesterday. I wouldn't say it was slicing like butter, but my knees aren't hurting too bad today, all considered.
Pat: It has really good pop for loading tricks and nice soft landings with the rocker line that it has. The one thing I have to say is you always know when you land a trick well on the Asylum because it kind of gives you a little bump back throughout the board. You get a nice extra "smack" sound when you hit the water, so it's a good feeling. I've always loved that about the Slingshot Asylum. I had one personally probably six years ago, and you hop on it and you feel like you're at home.
Pros and Cons?
Pat: Some of the cons that I've noticed about the board is it's a little heavy; the Asylum is not a lightweight board, but that's not what it's designed for. Pro and con: the rocker line. It's a great thing for choppy conditions and it's a great thing for pop, but it doesn't rocket upwind that well.
Dustin: No, not a crazy upwind board. I will say the pop on this is absolutely phenomenal. I was able to land a couple tricks to blind easily yesterday, so I was super stoked on the pop with the board.
Pat: It's got some good, aggressive channeling on the bottom of it, so you can ride with the standard 1 3/4" fins, or you can rock down to a smaller size and it'll still have a decent amount of grip for you.
Who's It For?
Dustin: This board is definitely for an intermediate rider; it's probably not a beginner style board.
Pat: Yeah, it wouldn't be something I'd send a new rider out on, but for an intermediate rider, it's going to help them take their freestyle jumping into that next tier.
Dustin: Even beginner/intermediate. For somebody that's looking for a little bit of extra pop and starting to get into their backrolls and frontrolls, this is definitely going to be the board for you.
Pat: It's also for the guy looking to toss some boots on a board. Back in the day, I definitely rode this board with boots, though not so much anymore. But it's still a great board if you want to toss on those boots and dip into the dark arts a little bit.
