North Fix Boots Review
The North Fix boots are kite specific and a good option for kiteboarder looking to add some power to their riding, They have a clean simple look that can be seen throughout the entire North Kiteboarding lineup. I had the chance to demo a pair for most of the winter and I was able to log loads of sessions in with these on the kite and in the cable park. Here are my thoughts.
Flex
The Flexibility on these are perfect for kite. The are stiff and supportive on the ankle with a solid connection to the board. They do however break in and flex just above the ankle makng grabs easier. One big issue with boots is they make riding upwind and nailing grabs tougher. These have just enough give where this becomes a non issue.
Weight
The boots are very light. I would say as light as boots come without sacrificing durability. They are at least half the weight of slingshot KTVs and this is a huge plus in light wind or when traveling. I want to say they weigh a pound or two less than my KTVs. In a pack this is almost another control bar. For lightwind kite you would be surprised how fast extra weight will bog you down. Two pounds isn't much when powered but in 13 knots it can make the difference.
Simplicity
These boots have no frills. They come with a simple connection system and two screws with handles for your fingers. I like this quite a bit. They velcro system is easy to strap on and off compared to Slingshots gummies or Ronix laces.
They also cut off lower on the calf. I have longer calf muscles so stiff high top boots create pressure points on my legs. I think thats a common problem for female riders as well with the longer leg muscles.
Ryan (Rygo) Goloversic
Many people dream of quitting their job, traveling the world and pursuing their passions. Rygo is one of those people who pulled the trigger. A few years into his career, he decided to change everything and travel as a kiteboarder, freelance videographer & writer. His mission is to share the stoke & help people put the boarding into their kiteboarding. Get outside and kite!
