Mystic Block Vest vs. Majestic
Hey guys, welcome back. This is Jake with MACkite. Today's At a Glance video is going to be some vest fitment. So when you're buying an impact flotation vest, every manufacturer varies slightly and they tend to fit pretty tightly, so I'm going to go through and show you how some different vests fit on me.
We're going to start with the Mystic Block vest. This is a very basic vest but also super functional. Just to overview real quickly, a reason you'd go with some of these vests is threefold. One: floatation. When you're out there in the water, especially when you're swimming in, when something goes wrong, it's really helpful to have one of these on. It's also going to provide some impact protection with these foam blocks here, and if you're out in cooler weather you're going to get a little bit of warmth from this neoprene material; it's going to keep your core warm. So we do really recommend vests.
I'm about six foot one inches and about 180 pounds, so bear that in mind as I'm putting these on. I typically wear a large size t-shirt, sometimes if I want a little bit of extra comfort I go extra large, but large most of the time.
To get started, I'm going to put on the Mystic Block vest. It's a center zip, which makes it really easy to get on and off. When you pop it on you're going to feel a bit like a muscle man. It's quite tight. You are going to have to pull this a bit; it's a flexible neoprene material, so don't worry about that. Because it's tight, you've really got to fight that zipper to get it on, and it takes a little bit of work to get these things zipped. So you're going to pull down, suck in a little bit, and pull up. It has a little button up here to keep it on, and this is a pretty tight vest.
People ask, "do you want your vest to be tight?" The answer is, obviously, yes. What you don't want to happen is you get out in the water and this thing sneaks up around your ears. You look like a buoy out there. You do a lot more harm than good having a vest on. Do you want it to be so tight that it's uncomfortable? Absolutely not. Again, you always want your gear to be so comfortable that you feel like you want to put it on and wear it.
So to do a little spin here, you will notice on this vest it's cut away at the top and the bottom, and that's so a harness can fit over. That's going to prevent that harness from pulling up, and it's also just going to lead to a better fit as they have this unibody synergy going on. Again, pretty tight, especially up in the chest here, but the right size with a large.
Next on the docket we have the Mystic Majestic vest. This is going to be a side zip. This is a much more flattering, sleek vest. When you want your friends to know you've got a little extra money, this is the vest you go with. You can notice, again, you're going to get some of that blockiness, probably a more pronounced cutaway here, and you're going to notice this vest is going to fit a little bit longer on me than the previous Block vest. Still a size large. With a side zip vest, one arm through. It is a little bit less obtrusive- you don't have the zipper running up the front, but you do have to fight it a little bit more to get it zipped. So you're going to suck in a little bit, but you can't get away with that quite as much, and then you're going to use this little clasp to keep that lock down and it's on.
Again, this is pretty tight, maybe a little bit tighter even than the last vest because of where the zipper is placed. It's over here so you don't have this whole flex zone right here. Rather, this is all unibody, but it's a lot more comfortable. Again, you don't feel anything in the middle there. The large is the right size. Again, it's tight, but it's not restricting my breathing.
So to review real quick, we have the Mystic Block vest, the Mystic Majestic. Both of them--I wear a large size t-shirt normally--I went with a large size vest and it was correct. They were still comfortable and I could tell that they weren't going to rise up around my ears on the water. All vests are going to fit slightly different, so keep checking back and we'll keep demonstrating how different vests fit. Until next time guys, this has been Jake with At a Glance.
