Let's Chat: 2016/17 Airush DNA Kite w/ Ryan
Ryan on the 2016/17 Airush DNA
The DNA is Airush’s answer to new kiteboarders who are on a budget, yet aren't willing to compromise on performance. As the head instructor here at MACkite, I find the DNA offers quite a few advantages to new riders as well as intermediate riders looking for a user-friendly kite to help progress.
The DNA is based off the Lithium, Airush’s all-around freeride kite. It’s a slightly stripped down version of the Lithium, although we find that it’s hard to notice any big difference in performance.
The DNA has everything you need to get going and learn how to kiteboard. Good wind range, easy relaunch, and up-to-date safety system. It’s designed to help riders progress in all styles of riding.

The large wind range is a huge advantage for beginners. Not having to switch kites as often when the wind changes, you spend less time rigging and more time riding. This will help you build your skills faster.
The relaunch for this kite is almost effortless. This means the kite will spend less time in the water and more time in the air, giving you more time to ride. It also allows you to have the peace of mind that the kite is going to relaunch right away and not get stuck on the water.
Having a modern safety system guarantees safety while learning. Being able to dump all the power in the kite gives you peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, you can get yourself and your kite back to the shore.
Oftentimes, new kiters or kiters on a budget will hop online and pick up an older kite. While this strategy works if you are well versed in safety systems, you are still playing Russian Roulette with the condition and performance aspects of any used kite. With the DNA, you get a kite that is budget-friendly while providing all the performance you would demand out of any all around freeride kite.
So, who is this kite for?
I would say intermediate riders and especially newer riders who want a kite that will help progress in jumping, freeride and waves.
Chances are, if you are a beginner you really don’t know what style of riding you will gravitate towards. You certainly don't want to start off on a high-end niche kite that may end up being designed for a style of riding you will never be interested in.
The DNA is a budget friendly, great all-around kite for anyone, including beginners.
