Jake Reviews: Trainer Kites
Jake Reviews Kiteboarding Trainer Kites
You may have heard of Jake. Perhaps it was for his friendliness, or the fact that he gives some of the best deals in the shop. Either way, Jake has decided to take over the reviewing session for a bit to chat about trainer kites. Trainer kites are a great option for those that are looking for a cheaper kite to learn basic flying skills before, during, or after a kiteboarding lesson. If you're just learning how to fly, we definitely recommend spending about three to ten hours on a trainer. Spending the extra time out on the beach will accelerate your progression once you decide to go out onto the water.
Slingshot B2, Slingshot B3, HQ Rush 200, and HQ Symphony 1.7m
- Two-line kites are a great way to learn the sport without breaking the bank.
- Include the kite, the bag, the bar and lines set, and the wrist strap.
- You'll be able to learn the basics, such as wind dynamics and maneuverability.
- These kites are open cell, meaning that if you crash this kite over water it will fill up and create a soggy kite
HQ Rush 300
- Still a two-line, but it is a slightly larger kite than the aforementioned.
- Gives you more pull on the beach.
- Can be fun for the kids out on the field, or it could be used for their snowkiting.
- These kites are open cell, meaning that if you crash this kite over water it will fill up and create a soggy kite
HQ Rush Pro Series
Available in 250, 300, and 350
- Pro kites have a third line that allows you to reverse launch your kite, which can also act as a safety feature
- Great for someone that wants to get back into the air as quickly as possible without having to walk up the kite and flip it over, like other two-line trainer kites
- These kites are open cell, meaning that if you crash this kite over water it will fill up and create a soggy kite
HQ Hydra Series
Available in 300 and 350
- Hydra Series is a closed cell kite, meaning that the leading edge is stitched together and vented, which means you can fly this kite over the water!
- With the vents in the Hydra, your kite won't fill up with water once it crashes.
HQ Beamer V and Prism Tensor
Available sizes for the Tensor: 3.1m, 4.2m, and 5.0m
- These kites are not only great for training but are also great for power kiting, such as land boarding and snowkiting
- These kites are typically not for your average kite flier because they generate a lot of power, but adrenaline junkies will have a great time getting pulled around by these big daddy kites
All of our trainer kites come with a free copy of our Kite School DVD. This DVD is fantastic and overs 21 different chapters, starting from the wind window to getting out on the water.
