How to use the Cabrinha Overdrive Bar

In his first episode of "How Tues", Tucker goes over the Cabrinha Overdrive Adjustable Control Bar with Recoil and Fireball. Wow, that's a mouth full. Fortunately the bar is easier to use than it is to pronounce.

Cabrinha kiteboarding has quite a few bar offerings and for some, particularly new riders it can be a little daunting. Fear not, it's actually easier than you think. In this video Tucker breaks down how simple all the Cabrinha Control Bars are to operate.

Let's start with the Cabrinha Overdrive Bar with Recoil & Fireball. In case you're new to kiteboarding or you've been under a rock the last year. Fireball is Cabrinha's new connection system.

Fireball Vs Quickloop

The first thing to consider on this bar would be the Fireball Connection System. So why Fireball vs the traditional chicken loop? Frankly, this comes down to personal preference and style. If you like to ride in the waves or do a lot of airstyle ticks the Fireball system is a no brainer. If you like to mix in anything unhooked, you're far better off with the Quickloop system.

Deploying the safety release

Fireball's quick release is only slightly different than quickloop. The concept is the same. Push the release away from you and the kite will flag out on its flag line. This will take almost all the power out of the kite. Your flag line will still connect to your leash like any other safety system. Reconnecting the quick release is not quite as simple as quickloop. Where you simply plug the chicken loop back together.

With the Fireball release you take the square hole on your connection system and place it over the metal latch inside the quick release. Then push the release away, fold the latch in and let the release come back down.

This is a case where it's easier done than said.

Adjusting the bar ends

The adjustable bar ends are what separates this bar from it's fixed counterparts.

This is beneficial as you can run one bar for your entire quiver of kites. Small kites are paired with small bars and large kites go with large bars. Being able to adjust this bar allows you to speed up or slow down the responsiveness of any kite in your quiver. Paring the shorter setting on a large kite will slow it down. Conversely, paring the large setting on a small kite will make it incredibly fast.

The Recoil Trim System

Recoil was Cabrinha's only bar offering for a few years before the emergence of Trimlite.

While not as simple as the trimlite system there some advantages. Namley, you get a touch more depower with recoil. Secondly, the springs will push the bar closer to the rider after depowering the kite. This is especially nice for riders with shorter arms.

Operating Recoil is about as simple as it can get. Pull the orange line to shorten your front lines and depower the kite. Pull the black line and you will lengthen your front lines. Doing this will change the angle of attack and adding more power to your kite.

Below the bar swivel.

Other things to note on this bar would be the below the bar swivel. If you have been kiteboarding for any length of time I'm sure you are familiar with the older above the bar swivels. The ones that never worked regardless of brand. This is actually one of my favorite features on this bar as you can simply untwist your lines after a rotation.

People often ask us what bar option is right for them in regards to the Cabrinha Line up. My response would be that it's completely subjective. There is no wrong choice. If you prefer to keep things simple and want to save a little money go for the fixed control bars. If you wan't a little more customization to your ride go for the adjustable overdrive bar.

It's nice being able to set your bar up for kite size. In regards to the trim system, We've covered Recoil in depth. Trimlite is a simple one line cleat system. Both work great, Trimlite is just a cleaner system.
