Holiday Gifts From and For Foil Drive

'Tis the season to give AND receive! Whether you're looking for a gift for your favorite Foil Drive fan or you are the foiler and could use a little boost, the crew at Foil Drive is putting on their Santa hats and delivering. They've released a free upgrade to the power of your existing Gen2 system, and they've got some affordable gift ideas to make any Foil Driver merry.

Free in-App Gear Upgrade

Communication is the key to any successful relationship, and this update lets your Foil Drive tell you when it's powered on. A few seconds after you plug in your battery, the motor will move slightly to make a sound to confirm that it's powered up.

Since the battery is essentially the on/off switch for your Foil Drive, leaving it plugged in while not in use will continue to drain the power. If the power drains too far, it will become impossible to recharge it again and it'll be nothing but a sad brick.

There can be a lot going through your mind when you come off the water. Maybe you're cold and you want to get changed as quickly as possible. Or you were catching a quick session and have somewhere else to be. It can be easy to forget to remove the battery from the Foil Drive unit, and there's nothing worse than finally remembering much later and realizing you've ruined it.

This update will pulse the motor to remind you that it's still powered up. The default setting is after 15 minutes of inactivity, but you can set it for longer or shorter, or even turn it off in the app. If you live very close to where you ride, or even right on the water, set it to a shorter time so that you haven't already walked away from your Foil Drive before it has a chance to remind you it's still on. Better safe than sorry!

The motor will also let you know when the Foil Drive unit has finished receiving a change you've made to the settings.

Speaking of changing the settings, the final update is probably the most exciting to those who can never have enough power. There's a new Boost Mode page in the app where you can get up to 24 percent boost for 18 seconds. These amounts are adjustable to suit your needs, like the setup you're on, your weight, the conditions, and your skill level. You can even set your boost percentage a little lower to get more time. The upgrade is for the Sport and Max batteries.

The extra boost is a great way to get up on foil quicker, but do remember that it'll use a little extra battery to do so. The cool thing is that this shouldn't affect your total runtime too much since you'll be spending less time getting up. In fact, the beta testers of this update were able to drop down to smaller foils and boards thanks to the extra boost, so you can ride more nimble gear that creates less drag.

Foil Drive Gift Guide

That update is a pretty sweet gift, but what if you're looking to spend a little more than zero on your foiler and get them something to level up their Foil Drive experience? Here are some ideas for the stockings of nice foilers!

1. Inline Battery Checker

Is that battery almost charged? How much time do I have left on it? This little doodad plugs into your battery to give you a quick reading of its remaining power while charging or while at the beach.

2. Gen2 40V Fast Charger

Time spent charging is time not spent on the water, so this fast charger may be just what your Foil Driver needs to get out riding more.

3. Travel Batteries

Heading somewhere warm for the holidays? Make sure your Foil Drive can come along! Most airlines will allow these Max Travel and Slim Travel batteries that are broken down into bite-size pieces.

If your foiler is stoked about the free power boost update, then they may have an upgrade to their propeller on their wish list. The three blade propeller hub upgrade is ideal for those need (or want) more torque to increase low end thrust.
