2025 North Orbit Pro | A Closer Look at Its Vertical Lift and Flight Dynamics

2025 North Orbit Pro | A Closer Look at Its Vertical Lift and Flight Dynamics

David is in Prea, Brazil, where he's had a chance to get a couple sessions on the new 2025 Orbit Pro from North. How does it fly, and how is it different from the 2024 Orbit Pro?

Which Sizes Did He Test?

David got out on both a 10m and the 8.1m, thanks to North Team Rider Josue San Ferreira, aka "Baby Shark" (named after his dad "Shark", not the epic song). Dave has been flying the 2024 Orbit Pro in an 8 and 10m for the past year, so he could feel the differences right away.

What's Different for 2025?

The 2025 Orbit Pro felt faster and wanted to sit higher up in the wind window. That made sense because the N-MAX2 used on the airframe allows the leading edge to have a smaller diameter, making the kite lighter and more aerodynamic. The reduced diameter was apparent as soon as he picked the kite up on the beach.

The Orbit Pro also felt faster through the loops. Because the kite sits higher in the window, it's got more lift and you can feel the extra vertical pull in the jumps.

To Dave, the 2024 Orbit Pro didn't feel like it flew significantly differently from his 2023 standard Orbit. It was a little faster in certain aspects, and the timing was a little different, but the kite position was similar and it just didn't feel like a very different kite. The 2025 Orbit Pro, however, felt like a significant jump from the 2024 Orbit Pro. It's actually about what he thought the 2024 Orbit Pro would be. He loved the 2024 and had a lot of fun on it, but the 2025 Pros certainly have a bit more going on for them.

The bridle is now a 5-point attachment system instead of 4, so overall the lift felt stronger and more vertical. With the volume of the leading edge having been reduced by 4 liters, resulting in that higher position in the wind window, that contributes to the vertical lift as well. Even standing on the beach, Dave could see the difference right away since the bar sat closer to him, with the kite closer to the zenith.

The 2024 Pro was a bit underpowered on the low end, but that's been corrected for 2025. It's got better upwind ability and low-end performance. Even in light winds, it wants to sit high in the window.

Big Air Performance

Dave got the 8.1m out on a big wind day and put it through its paces. Loops and Boogie Loops felt great. They came around really fast and wanted to catch you quicker than previous models of the Orbit Pro, which is something that all big air riders are looking for.

The more vertical pull lends some forgiveness to a bad takeoff or lack of edging by not pulling you forward too far. Dave makes no claim of being a big air expert, so this flexibility was appreciated.

Summary

The 2025 Orbit Pro has some great qualities and Dave is excited to get some more sessions on it soon. He got a light and powered session on both the 8.1m and 10m, and both did much better than expected in the light wind. It was nice to have the added range, and the 10m was surprisingly stable in the lighter winds.

2025 has been a good step forward for the Orbit Pro, and it's a great kite for the intermediate rider who's starting to get into big air and loops. The Orbit is a classic looping kite, and the Pro gives you a bit more performance in that area with its faster turns and higher jumps, so it's perfect for progression and pros alike.
