2017 Cabrinha Apollo Overview
MACkite chats about the all new 2017 Cabrinha Apollo kiteboarding kite.
The Apollo really address a concern for all of us concerning advancement in certain categories. Over the years Cabrinha has done a great job creating kites for every category imaginable. A few years ago Cabrinha included the Drifter and that’s pointed at someone who just wants to destroy the waves. The Chaos is designed for that advanced, freestyle wakestyle rider. The FX is designed for that performance freestyle, even wakestyle Rider. Build for massive jumping and looping. The Contra is designed for light winds and the progression that comes from those added sessions.
So the Gap that was missing there was performance freeride. The FX kind of touched on that a little bit but what it lacked was efficiency. Enter the Apollo for 2017
The Apollo is an amazing performance freeride kite. I know we all remember the Crossbow. It was a great jumping, a performance lightwind kite in some ways. It actually was pretty good in the waves. It was efficient and it just launched. It was just an awesome all around kite. And we were pretty sad to see it go away, although the switchblade kind of made up for it. Cabrinha felt that they lacked in that performance freeride category as a kite for someone who wants ultimate efficiency.
It feels as though the crossbow and the velocity were to have had a baby.
Ready to ride?
Not long ago we got our first glimpse of the Apollo and when I saw it in the sky I first thought, basically an LEI Flysurfer. A very high aspect thin, very interesting kite that was different from anything I have ever seen. I’ve heard it was similar to what was the velocity last year and what was the Crossbow a couple of years ago. Looking at it in the sky it doesn’t necessarily paint that picture to me. In your hands, I would say 100% It feels as though the crossbow and the velocity were to have had a baby.
It jams upwind, it launches well, jumps amazing and it supper easy to fly. It’s very very stable it’s incredibly efficient. It’s just an awesome performance Freeride kite. For that person that doesn’t want to unhook. Who doesn’t want to ride in the waves all the time. If you want something that will just jam upwind and launch jumps. The Apollo is something you absolutely must consider for 2017.
