13 Wing Foiling Gift Ideas Under $150 USD for that Wind Guru in Your Life
Santa Ryan and his trusty elf Jeff have some gift ideas for the winger in your life. Winging can be a bit complicated with all the options to customize your foil, but these are gifts that any winger can appreciate. In fact, these are things the guys use themselves and, even better, they come in at a price point under $150.
CWS Wing Screw Set
"My favorite part of foiling is putting in all the track screws before a session," said no foiler ever. The CWS Wing Screw Set makes that task just a bit more bearable and a lot faster. It's a tool-less system to connect your foil to your board. Instead of using screws and a screwdriver, these bolts have wings to tighten them by hand. It's way faster and you can leave the driver at home.
At the shop, we love these. We're always swapping foil and board combos, and these are a must-have for that. They have a nice seating on them, so they work on both aluminum and carbon masts without doing any damage. They use your existing track nuts, so this is a nice upgrade.
Konrad Click Nuts
If you want a step up from the CWS system, take a look at the Konrad Click Nuts. They work the same way, but after you get your screw tightened, you can pull up on the wing and rotate it to be parallel to your direction of travel. This is much more hydrodynamic and creates less drag while you're getting up on foil.
Both of these are great options for getting you out on the water faster once you arrive at your spot.
Stringfellow Track Nuts
If your winger is like Jeff and having the least amount of drag is a priority, they'll want to stick with their standard screws. No worries- they can upgrade the track nut instead and still save some time at the beach.
The Stringfellow Track Nuts have a plug that you screw down into the nut, securing it in place in the track. The next time you set up, your track nuts are exactly where you like them, and you simply have to attach your foil.
They're compatible with both M6 and M8 hardware because there are two holes drilled in it and two sets of plugs. If you use M8 hardware, then use the M6 plugs to secure your track nuts and the M8 holes to attach your foil. It's a clever system that works really well.
Foilite Titanium Track Nuts
There's also an upgraded option for the track nuts. The Foilite Track Nuts work just like the Stringfellow ones, but they're high-end titanium. Pick these up and your winger will not have to worry about corrosion. This is nice since you'll be leaving your track nuts in the board all the time.
Ozone Harness Line V3
The Ozone Harness Line V3 is a great stocking stuffer for your winger, and both Ryan and Jeff use it themselves. Some wingers don't use a harness line and some do. It really comes down to how long you like to stay out on the water and how long your tacks are to get back to wave riding. No matter what shape you're in or how strong you are, a harness line can be very helpful and extend your sessions by reducing fatigue.
The Ozone harness line is simple and minimalistic. That keeps things lightweight with less to go wrong. It's a bungee line that attaches to your wing handle. It's easy to adjust and stay locked in once you've got it where you want it. Because it's a bungee, it doesn't flop around the way a PVC line can when you're pumping.
If you're out in nuking winds, because it's so lightweight it can get blown aside and become difficult to get hooked back in, but you can use your thumb to pull it taut, and that helps a lot in that situation.
It's a very effective harness line that can give you more time out on the water and make it easier to tack upwind.
A3D Artness Pro Harness Line
If you want a harness line with a nifty on-the-fly adjustment feature, the A3D Artness Pro Harness Line is a nice upgrade, and your winger probably doesn't have one yet.
It attaches securely to your boom or handles with velcro. There is a bungee with extra line that attaches to the end of your wing, and then you can give yourself more or less harness line while you're actually out on the water riding.
Because it goes on and off so easily with that velcro and adjusts effortlessly, it's a great harness line to share among different wings, where the Ozone line is something that you'd probably leave on once you've got it in place.
Surf Ears 4.0 Watersports Ear Plugs
If you ride in cold water, the Surf Ears 4.0 Watersports Ear Plugs are a must-have. There's a condition called surfer's ear that's caused by exposing the ear canal to cold water. The body tries to protect the eardrum by creating bony growths that partially close off the ear canal, but this can affect your hearing.
These ear plugs keep the water out and reduce the noise of the wind and crashing waves while still allowing you to hear well. Keeping the water out can also help reduce ear infections, and if you like to push yourself and take some hard impacts into the water, these can help prevent blown eardrums as well. These ear plugs are a great safety accessory.
They come in a handy case with a carabiner and include different sizes for a perfect fit.
Ripstop Dacron Canopy Tape
Ripstop Dacron Canopy Tape sounds like a minor thing, but it can be a session or even a trip saver. If you're out there with a wing and a foil, there's always a chance that the two will meet, with your wing canopy coming out the loser every time. (In fact, this just happened to Jeff yesterday.)
Having a length of ripstop tape on hand can let you make a repair and get back out quickly. As simple to use as the ever-versatile duct tape, you simply dry your canopy and apply the ripstop tape to both sides of the tear. You can pick it up by the foot on our site and keep it in your bag as cheap insurance.
AirTime DIY Repair Kit
Of course, more can go wrong than just a canopy tear, so it might be worth picking up the more complete AirTime DIY Repair Kit. This is especially nice to have along on a trip where you might not have boardsports services nearby.
It includes the tape, bladder patches, scissors, seam grip glue, a Sharpie for marking a bladder leak once you find it, and other handy things that make this a self-contained session-saver.
Ozone Waist Leash V3
Your wing can get away from you pretty quickly if it's not attached, so a leash is an essential accessory. Where you attach it on your body is a matter of personal preference. Some like to keep their hands unencumbered and attach the leash to their harness, and the Ozone Waist Leash V3 is a fine option to do that.
F-One Wrist Leash
If you don't ride with a harness or just prefer to attach the wing to your wrist, the F-One Wrist Leash works really well. It includes a padded wrist cuff that's easy to put on and take off with velcro.
Of course, any winger is already going to have a wing leash, but they do wear out or can be left behind, so a spare is always welcome. It's no fun trying to catch up to your wing when you drop it.
PKS Sand Anchor
A lot of beaches don't have anything to attach your wing to once it's pumped up and you're putting away your pump and getting the rest of your gear. A sand anchor is a great solution to hold your wing in place when you need it and pack away small when you don't.
The PKS Sand Anchor is a simple triangle that you load sand onto. You can attach a carabiner onto the straps or set the whole thing on top of your wing. If you've got an electric pump, it's especially handy because you can get your wing pumping and walk away to grab your board without worrying that your wing will take off without you.
PKS Sand Bag
Not all riding spots have sand handy, though. Then you'll want to bring a pre-filled sand bag. The PKS Sand Bag has nice, sturdy handles so you can pick it up and carry it, and you can also attach a carabiner to them.
Pro Tip: Fill your sand bag with aquarium gravel and you won't have sand leaking out of it into your car.
If your foiler or winger has been good this year, any of these gifts should put them in a merry mood!
